Animal Research at MBL

Ethical considerations for animal research

We are committed to conduct appropriate animal research from animal welfare and scientific point of view with adherence to the 3Rs principle (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) on animal use. For this purpose, MBL formed institutional committee*1 and created an internal guideline for animal experiments in accordance with “Act on Welfare and Management of Animals” and other related guidelines. We conduct animal experiments according to the internal guideline. Our animal research and institutional committee’s activities are regularly self-inspected to verify their conformity to the internal guideline. Furthermore, MBL’s members are given education and training on appropriate animal research as well as appropriate animal care and management in order to continuously improve our quality in ethical animal treatment.
